Bangladesh Football Federation unexpectedly interviewed Bernd Storck on Tuesday as the search for Bangladesh’s next national team coach took another turn.
The federation’s national teams committee had earlier prepared a six-man shortlist, but Storck did not feature on it. BFF officials held the interview at around 5pm Bangladesh time while they continued salary and contract discussions with the shortlisted candidates.
The sudden move created fresh uncertainty around the recruitment process. BFF spent the past two days negotiating financial terms and support staff arrangements with the original candidates before bringing Storck into talks.
Among the reported shortlist, Chris Coleman remains the highest-profile name. Storck, however, carries stronger tournament experience. The German coach guided Hungary into the knockout stage of UEFA Euro 2016 and has also worked in Asian football.
Tabith Awal, who serves as BFF president and chairman of the national teams committee, set 15 May as the deadline to announce the successor to former coach Javier Cabrera. The federation has yet to finalise an appointment.
BFF will hold another national teams committee meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Officials could trim the shortlist further or move directly towards a final decision.
Bangladesh face increasing pressure to settle the position quickly ahead of the next international window, particularly with growing public attention around players such as Hamza Choudhury and the national side’s recent recruitment drive.
