Bengali film and television actress Shraboni Bonik, known for her popular serial roles and notable film appearances, has died in Kolkata after a prolonged illness. She was 34.
Bonik passed away on Monday morning, December 29, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Rajarhat. Indian media reports said she had been battling lung adenocarcinoma with metastasis for some time, and her condition had worsened in recent weeks.
The actress had been hospitalised for several days, during which her health continued to deteriorate. She died at around 9:00 am, leaving colleagues and fans across the Bengali entertainment industry in shock.
Director Babu Bonik, a close friend of the actress, described her final days as deeply painful. Speaking to the media from the hospital, he said she had remained away from work for an extended period due to her illness. Her last rites are scheduled to take place at Nimtala crematorium later today.
Sraboni Banik rose to prominence through television serials such as ‘Lalkuthi’, ‘Ranga Bou’, ‘Godhuli Alap’ and ‘Sohag Chand’, the latter marking her final appearance on the small screen. She was also recognised for her film performances in ‘Alo’ and ‘Chander Bari’, which earned her appreciation from audiences.
