The Bangladesh Cricket League One day tournament is about to begin, offering players a chance to return to regular 50 over cricket. The tournament will also help Bangladesh build toward future international events, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Chief Program Coordinator Minhajul Abedin Nannu said the event is important because it brings together players from the national pool. The selectors have already formed four teams, and he expects a strong level of competition.
“The biggest thing this time is that we are getting all the players from the national pool together,” Nannu said. “I expect the tournament to be lively and I think we will see the best possible cricket.”
He said Bangladesh needs more one day matches after a long gap in the format. “We have not played much 50 over cricket recently. From here we are starting again, keeping the 2027 World Cup in mind. I believe we will see a good standard of cricket,” he said.
Nannu also spoke about senior players and team selection. On Shakib Al Hasan, he said the decision about his return depends on the selectors and team management.
“Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best cricketers Bangladesh has produced,” he said. “But it is hard to say now when he will play for the national team. The selection panel and team management will decide after checking his fitness and current condition.”
He also backed Litton Das to perform well in the one day format. “Litton is one of our leading batters and a top cricketer. He has the ability to come back. If he settles properly, I hope he will return to good form soon,” he said.
The BCB official said weather and ground conditions should not be a concern this time in Rajshahi and Bogura. Earlier matches in those venues during the rainy season faced problems, but the current February window should offer better conditions. He expects good wickets and competitive cricket.
Nannu added that the selection panel handles all squad decisions. The presence or absence of players such as Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Anamul Haque Bijoy, and Mosaddek Hossain will be explained by the selectors once the official list is released.
With an international series against Pakistan ahead, the BCL is likely to play a key role in helping players show their form and push for a place in the national team.
