A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Sony Rangs Electronics Limited Managing Director Ekram Hussain and two of his family members.

The court order came on Monday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of laundering money abroad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order after ACC Deputy Assistant Director and investigating officer Md. Al Amin filed the petition. Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.

The other two accused are Ekram Hussain’s brother, Sony Rangs Deputy Managing Director Beanus Hussain, and their father, Sachimi Hussain.

According to the ACC application, Ekram, Beanus, and others are accused of illegally acquiring wealth and laundering an estimated Tk 15,000–20,000 crore abroad.

The petition also stated that the accused and their family members own a huge amount of immovable and movable assets both at home and abroad, and there are allegations of attempts to transfer or dispose of these illegally acquired assets elsewhere.

In this context, the ACC argued that a travel ban is essential to prevent the transfer of assets under their names and to preserve evidence of possible crimes.
