The Bangladesh Cricket Board has begun disciplinary action against one of its directors after comments on player payments sparked strong reaction in the cricket community.

The issue started when BCB director M Najmul Islam questioned why players should be paid compensation if they do not play in the World Cup. His remarks spread quickly on social media and drew criticism from fans and former players. Many said the comments were disrespectful to cricketers.

Soon after the reaction, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said the remarks were inappropriate and promised action. On Thursday, the board issued a press release confirming that formal steps have been taken.
