Jamaat-e-Islami has clarified its position, saying that the country will be governed according to the existing laws of Bangladesh and that no law will be changed or amended without the opinion and consent of the people.
The clarification came after a photocard circulated online allegedly distorted the Jamaat ameer’s remarks by linking them with unrelated comments.
In a post on its verified Facebook page, the party said the presentation was misleading and aimed at creating confusion.
It said, “On January 14, a photocard citing the statement of the respected Ameer of Jamaat came to our attention, where his remarks were deliberately distorted and circulated.”
“In the said photocard, the Ameer of Jamaat’s statement was twisted together with a remark by Martha Das, General Secretary of the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh, and presented in a way that does not correspond with the actual statement,” it added.
Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, assistant secretary general of Jamaat and head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, corrected the statement and presented the ameer’s full and authentic remarks.
He said the Jamaat ameer reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution, the rule of law, religious harmony, and the protection of citizens’ rights. The party also urged all concerned to act responsibly and avoid spreading misrepresentation that could mislead the public, he added.
