BCB Red beat BCB Green by 123 runs in an Independence Day exhibition match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The Green side chased 214 but could not stay in the game. Elias Sunny led the bowling with five wickets for 20 runs in four overs. Mohammad Rafique backed him up with four wickets for 18 runs in 3.2 overs.

Shahriar Nafees scored 33 off 19 balls with four fours and two sixes. Abdur Razzak made 18 off 14 with two sixes. No other batter reached double figures as wickets fell in a rush.

Earlier, the Red team built a big total of 213 for five in 20 overs. Mehrab Hossain Opee got out early for two. After that, the batters attacked.

Nasiruddin Faruque scored 84 off 53 balls with five fours and six sixes. Mohammad Ashraful added 25 off 22 with two fours and a six. Rafique hit 50 off 24 with four fours and four sixes. Dollar Mahmud scored 27 off nine balls with four sixes.

Faisal Hossain Dickens took two wickets for the Green team.

The match created a festive mood in Mirpur. Former players returned to the field and enjoyed the moment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board organises these matches on Independence Day and Victory Day every year.

The Green team wore jerseys with the number 26. The Red team wore 71. Both numbers hold strong meaning in the country’s history.
