The Bangladesh Cricket Board has hit back at what it calls false and misleading media reports about the number of One Day Internationals the national team will play before the qualification cut-off for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
In a statement issued on Monday, the board said some outlets had published inaccurate information about Bangladesh’s ODI commitments and the opportunities to gain ranking points ahead of automatic qualification.
Under the current ICC Future Tours Programme, Bangladesh are scheduled to play 24 ODIs between 14 October 2025 and November 2026. Automatic qualification will go to the top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The BCB listed the fixtures during this period as:
- Afghanistan – 1 ODI (away)
- West Indies – 3 ODIs (home)
- Pakistan – 3 ODIs (home)
- New Zealand – 3 ODIs (home)
- Australia – 3 ODIs (home)
- Zimbabwe – 5 ODIs (away)
- Ireland – 3 ODIs (away)
- India – 3 ODIs (home)
The board stressed that all of these series are part of bilateral agreements under the ICC FTP and will directly affect Bangladesh’s ranking. According to the statement, the matches give the team sufficient opportunities to collect the points required for a top-eight finish and direct entry to the World Cup.
The BCB also called on media outlets to verify fixture and qualification information through official sources before publishing.
