Naik Md Akhtar Hossain of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), who was injured in a mine explosion at the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, has been transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The injured Naik Md Akhtar Hossain is a member of the BGB’s Cox’s Bazar 34 Battalion.
He was sent to Dhaka via helicopter from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Ramu Cantonment on Monday afternoon, according to BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Mohammad Mahiuddin Ahmed.
Prior to this, on Sunday morning, a BGB team was patrolling the Tumbru border area in Ghumdhum union of Naikhongchhari upazila. At that time, a mine planted by the Myanmar rebel group Arakan Army exploded. In this incident, BGB member Akhtar Hossain was injured, resulting in the complete severance of his left heel and severe injuries to his other leg.
Subsequently, BGB members rescued the injured Akhtar Hossain and admitted him to the CMH in Ramu Cantonment.
Colonel Mahiuddin Ahmed said that immediately after being injured in the border mine explosion, BGB member Akhtar Hossain was rescued and admitted to Ramu CMH. He was under treatment there until Monday noon. In the afternoon, doctors recommended his transfer to Dhaka CMH for advanced treatment.
He later informed that the hospitalised Akhtar Hossain was taken to Dhaka via helicopter from Ramu Cantonment in the afternoon.
Local and BGB sources reported that Myanmar has planted numerous landmines in the no man’s land of the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban, which is surrounded by inaccessible hills and deep forests. Consequently, mine explosions occur frequently in that area.
From 2023 to 2025, 16 people have been injured in landmine explosions in the border area. Among them, 3 were injured in 2023, 3 in 2024, and 10 were injured up to August 2025. In 2024, a Rohingya refugee was killed while collecting crabs in the Naf River in Teknaf.
