After the BCB elections, the focus has shifted to the BPL. The new board wants to hold the franchise tournament as planned in December and January.
Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, newly appointed BPL secretary, confirmed this after a meeting with the committee.
BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has kept the role of BPL Governing Council chief with himself. With just a couple of months left before the tournament, the franchises are still not finalized. This has raised concerns about the organization of the event.
The responsibility to organize the BPL has been given to event management company IMG. So far, no clear progress has been seen. Rahat Shams, a member of BCB’s Grounds Committee, said the board will do everything possible to hold the BPL on time.
Speaking to the media in Sylhet, he said, “There will be no lack of effort from the committee and the board. The Governing Committee has been formed under the president’s leadership. They will make the final decisions and handle the rest of the work. We will provide all the support needed.”
In the previous BPL, BCB rushed the organization and faced many problems. Franchise selection caused major issues. Some franchises could not even pay hotel bills or settle players’ dues.
Shams added, “The discussion now is that the BPL will happen. The Governing Body has been formed under the president, and they will manage the remaining work. We will know their decisions in time.”
