The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held its latest general meeting on Monday. At a midnight press conference, BCB media committee chairman Iftekhair Rahman Mithu and legal adviser Mahin Rahman addressed several key issues.
Most of the discussion focused on the upcoming BCB elections. Mithu noted that, according to the schedule provided by the Election Commission, the councillor list was meant to be published at 7pm on Monday, but this did not happen. He indicated that the schedule may now be readjusted.
Mithu also confirmed that the International Management Group (IMG) will join the BPL for the next three years. The Bangladesh Premier League is planned to take place as scheduled in December and January, with preparations already underway. The media committee chairman said:
“We are targeting the BPL for December-January. There is still significant work to be done, and the final decisions will be taken by the new board. This was our last board meeting, but preparations have already begun, and the target timeframe has been set.”
On the board’s finances, Mithu revealed that the board is owed approximately 400 million taka by 18 former BPL franchises, against whom legal action is being taken.
Naming the franchises, Mithu stated:
“Barisal Burners, Chittagong Kings, Dhaka Gladiators, Khulna Royal, Duronto Rajshahi, Sylhet Royals, Sylhet Superstar, Barisal Bulls, Sylhet Sixers, Rajshahi Kings, Rajshahi Royals, Sylhet Thunder, Chattogram Challengers, Sylhet Sunrisers, Dhaka Dominators, Duronto Dhaka, Durbar Rajshahi, and Delta Sports (formerly Chittagong). All 18 teams have defaulted in the BPL so far, and arbitration proceedings are ongoing.”
