Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and media committee chairman Iftekhair Rahman Mithu has expressed satisfaction with his eight-month tenure, highlighting both his personal experience and the financial strength of the outgoing board.
Mithu, who took charge of the media committee on 25 January 2025, said after Monday’s board meeting that he had greatly enjoyed the responsibility.
“From January until now I have really enjoyed this role,” he remarked. “Today was the final board meeting. If at any point I have spoken harshly or made mistakes, please forgive me.”
He described being part of the board’s activities as a “significant personal responsibility,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
Mithu noted that several key issues were discussed in the final meeting, including the upcoming election, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and the financial state of the board.
“At today’s meeting we spoke about some very important matters — the election, the BPL, and our finances, specifically how much money we are leaving in the board,” he said.
The board’s financial reserves were a particular focus. As the country’s wealthiest sports organisation, the BCB will be leaving a substantial balance behind.
“We are leaving about 13.98 billion taka, including FDRs, cash in hand and funds in banks,” Mithu confirmed.
Looking to the future, Mithu identified two major challenges for the BCB: conducting the board elections and successfully managing the BPL franchise league. He stressed that transparency and proper planning would be essential to strengthen the board’s credibility.
“If these processes are managed correctly, the cricket board will become even more trustworthy,” he said.
