Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur on Wednesday projected that the country’s foreign exchange reserves would rise to $40 billion during the current year.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday, he said reserves are expected to surpass $35 billion by the end of this month.
“We anticipate reserves will exceed $35 billion this month and reach $40 billion before the year ends,” he said.
Ahsan H Mansur noted that while the economy is showing signs of stabilisation, structural vulnerabilities remain.
Efforts to bring inflation down to 7 percent have not yet succeeded, and additional time will be needed to achieve the target.
He emphasised that the new government must take proactive measures to boost investment and protect both national and public interests. Acknowledging that the financial sector has faced significant irregularities in recent years, he said correcting them will take time but expressed hope that reforms initiated by the interim government would continue under the new administration.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury highlighted the importance of reviving weakened institutions.
“We do not want a patronage-based economy,” he said, stressing that economic growth should be inclusive and its benefits shared by all citizens.
