Students from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line on Sunday morning to press home their three-point demand, halting all train services in the area.
The protestors, primarily students from the Faculty of Agriculture, staged the sit-in on the tracks, bringing rail communication to a complete standstill near the university campus.
The agitating students have issued a stern warning to continue their demonstration until their demands are met.
Their key demands include the creation of positions under the 10th grade for agricultural graduates in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and other research institutions. They are also demanding the abolition of the existing quota for BADC in the 9th grade.
The students alleged that despite repeatedly voicing their concerns over a long period, the authorities have failed to take any effective measures to address their grievances. They vowed to intensify their movement if their demands are not fulfilled promptly.
