Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan has called for exemplary punishment for the armed forces personnel allegedly involved in the recent assault on party President Nurul Haque Nur.
Speaking at a press conference at the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon, Rashed said, “Those members of the armed forces involved in the attack must be brought to justice.
“There is no scope to derail the upcoming election using this incident as a pretext.”
He further noted that media that President Mohammed Shahabuddin inquired about Nur’s condition earlier in the morning and assured that the government would arrange for his treatment abroad.
“The president expressed deep concern over the attack, conveyed his well wishes for Nur’s speedy recovery, and strongly condemned the brutal assault. He assured that exemplary punishment will be ensured for those responsible,” Rashed added.
Meanwhile, Nur’s wife, Maria Akhtar, said her husband is still not out of danger. Calling for justice against the attackers, she requested prayers for his recovery.
