To mark World Music Day, Nazrul singer Barnali Sarkar has released a new rendition of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s monsoon-themed song ‘Borsha Ritu Elo Elo’, featuring a musical arrangement and sitar performance by Jahangir Alam (Shrabon).
The song, unveiled on World Music Day, celebrates the freshness of nature, the beauty of clouds and rain, and the many moods of the monsoon season. The special presentation places particular emphasis on the interplay between the vocals of Barnali and the sitar.
The arrangement combines Nazrul’s original composition with Megh, a classical raga traditionally associated with the rainy season, offering the song in a new musical format.
Musicians contributing to the production include Rabindranath Pal on pakhawaj and tabla, while Kaushik Ahmed Antor performed on piano. Mixing and mastering were completed by Ifte Khairul Alam Shuvo.
The track has been released on the artists’ respective YouTube channels, Covered by Shrabon and Barnali Sarkar, and has also been made available across various social media platforms.
The artists said World Music Day holds special significance for music lovers. They noted that just as the monsoon brings freshness to nature, songs inspired by the season can invigorate the human spirit.
They added that special attention was given not only to the song’s lyrics and melody but also to the instrumental arrangement in an effort to make the atmosphere of the monsoon more vivid and engaging for listeners.
The artists expressed hope that the distinctive arrangement, while preserving the original melody and essence of Nazrul Sangeet, will also resonate with younger audiences.
