Bangladesh Bar Council, the regulatory body for lawyers, will hold the Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) examination for enrolment as advocates on 12 June.
Bangladesh Bar Council Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossain Sikder (District and Sessions Judge) confirmed the matter on Wednesday. The examination will take place from 10am to 11am.
To obtain a certificate as an advocate, a candidate must pass a three-stage examination process supervised by the Bar Council. Following the completion of an undergraduate degree in law, a candidate must submit an intimation under a senior lawyer who has been in the profession for at least 10 years.
Candidates are eligible to sit for the MCQ examination six months after the submission of the Intimation and the completion of necessary formalities.
Those who pass the MCQ examination will have the opportunity to participate in the written examination. Upon passing the written test, candidates must then succeed in a viva voce (oral examination) to be granted the certificate as an advocate.
The legal profession officially begins by joining the respective District Bar Association after the certificate is obtained. The entire process of awarding these certificates is managed by the Bar Council.
