Bangladeshi filmmaker Rezwan Shahriar Sumit has completed post-production work on his second feature film ‘Master’, marking a major milestone for the political thriller.
Following the completion of principal photography, the film’s editing, colour grading and sound work were finalised in South Korea with the involvement of internationally recognised technicians.
Master follows Sumit’s acclaimed debut ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ (The Salt in Our Waters) and continues his focus on socially rooted storytelling. The post-production process took place at several leading studios in Seoul and Busan, including C47, Wavelab and the Busan Sound Stage, with support from the Busan Film Commission.
The project brought together artistes and technicians from different parts of the world. Among those involved were Steve M Choe, who edited Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer, and Han Mohwan, the sound designer of Lee Chang-dong’s Burning. The film was edited by Christian Sprague and Hao Ting-hsi, with Sprague returning after previously working on Sumit’s debut feature.
Bangladeshi sound editor and designer Shoibo Talukder accompanied the filmmaker during the South Korea post-production phase, collaborating on the film’s sound design and mixing.
Master explores various dimensions of grassroots-level politics in Bangladesh. The film received a government grant during the 2022–23 fiscal year, with Sumit serving as both director and producer.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, the filmmaker said the film is set to travel to international film festivals before its theatrical release in Bangladesh. The cast includes Nasir Uddin Khan, Zakia Bari Mamo, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Fazlur Rahman Babu and Lutfar Rahman George in key roles.
