The Bangladesh women’s national football team will play two international friendlies against Azerbaijan during the upcoming FIFA window in November.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) vice-president Fahad Karim confirmed the news on Sunday, revealing that BFF president Tabith Awal had initially hoped to organise a tri-nation tournament involving Azerbaijan at the end of November. However, with no third team available, the plan has been scaled down to a two-match series.

“It is confirmed, Azerbaijan is coming to Bangladesh. If another nation joins, it will be a tri-nation series, which the president also wants. But if not, we will still play two friendly games against Azerbaijan, that is confirmed,” Fahad told reporters.

The fixtures will add to what has already been a historic year for the Bangladesh women’s side. They recently clinched the SAFF Championship title and, for the first time, booked their place at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.

Their rise has also been reflected in the latest FIFA rankings, where they climbed 24 spots to reach 104th. Azerbaijan, ranked 74th, will provide a stern challenge, but Bangladesh have already shown they can overcome higher-ranked opposition, having beaten Myanmar in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
