Bangladesh is set to play a do-or-die match against Afghanistan at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday to keep their Super Four dream alive. Losing to Sri Lanka came as a setback for the side. Keeping the net run rate in mind, Bangladesh must have to win against the Afghans who are the Table topper of group ‘B’ with a net run rate of 4.001 in their favour.
On Monday, Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed was asked in a pre match press conference if Bangladesh still believes they can qualify for the Super four.
The former Pakistani cricketer replied in a confident manner, “Yes, you have to believe. The coaches and all the management are trying to tell them that belief is very important. From a coaching point of view, we have to believe that we can qualify.”
Before taking on Bangladesh, Afghanistan had a week-long gap. They would step into the field with a fresh & clear mind. Less saying that, they would come hard at Bangladesh.
Mushtaq thinks that Afghan spinners would try to make some difference in middle overs. Keeping that in mind, he hoped that Bangladeshi batters would tackle the Afghan spinners. “I think the spin department. They are very good with the spin department in middle overs especially”, Mushtaq Said.
“If we can counter that middle overs well and put a decent score on the board, then I think we can challenge because our bowling unit is also very good. So, I am more concerned about the middle overs”, He added.
