A joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Navy has recovered a significant quantity of ammunition, locally made firearms and explosives in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Bangladesh Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the recovery on Wednesday afternoon.
Acting on secret information, members of Coast Guard Teknaf Station and the Navy launched the raid around 5am in the salt-field area near Konapara in Teknaf upazila.
The team seized 9 rounds of live bullets, 2 live cartridges, 7 blank cartridges, 13 blank cases, 2 homemade explosives, 2 homemade weapons and 3 locally made firearms.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said the miscreants managed to flee after sensing the presence of law enforcers, leaving no opportunity for arrests.
He added that intelligence surveillance continues to identify and detain those involved.
Legal action regarding the seized items is in progress, he said, adding that the Coast Guard remains active in operations to curb criminal activities and recover illegal weapons.
