Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined millions of cricket fans across India in celebrating the country’s Asia Cup title victory after a five-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan in the final held in Dubai on Sunday night.
The thrilling conclusion came when Rinku Singh struck the winning boundary, sparking jubilant scenes nationwide. Celebrations erupted in several cities as crowds took to the streets, setting off firecrackers, distributing sweets and dancing to drum beats to mark India’s record-extending ninth Asia Cup title.
In a post on his official X account, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team. He wrote, “Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same, India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”
“Operation Sindoor” refers to India’s military offensive against terror sites in Pakistan in May, which followed a deadly terror attack that claimed 26 lives in the Himalayan resort town of Pahalgam in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region on 22 April.
