While Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Thursday, members of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team have already embraced the festive spirit a day earlier due to their overseas tour commitments.
Currently in Edinburgh, Scotland as part of their preparation for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, the team celebrated Eid-ul-Adha together away from home. Led by captain Nigar Sultana Joty, the cricketers spent the occasion with teammates, coaches and support staff.
For many members of the squad, it marked their first Eid celebration outside Bangladesh and away from family. Left-arm spinner Sanjida Akter Meghla was among those experiencing it for the first time. Despite the distance from home, the players were seen smiling and posing for photos after offering Eid prayers at the Edinburgh Centr.al Mosque.
Bangladesh will begin their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign on June 14. Placed in Group 1, Joty’s side will face the Netherlands, Australia, Pakistan, India and South Africa.
Before the World Cup, Bangladesh are scheduled to play a tri-nation series involving Scotland and Ireland in Edinburgh. The women’s cricketers departed the country in two phases on Sunday and Monday for the tour.
