Bangladesh continued their winning run in the CAVA Cup International Volleyball Tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Nepal on Thursday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
In front of a lively home crowd, the hosts were pushed to the limit before clinching the decisive fifth set 16-14. Bangladesh had earlier taken the first two sets 25-23 and 25-20 but lost momentum as Nepal fought back to claim the next two 25-23 and 25-16. The match went down to the wire, with Bangladesh eventually sealing the contest in dramatic fashion. Al Amin of Bangladesh was named Player of the Match for his standout performance.
Earlier in the day’s opening fixture, Turkmenistan defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20), with Serdar Aldurdiev earning the Player of the Match award. In the second game, Afghanistan cruised past Maldives 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12), as Mohammad Shah Badun starred for the winning side.
Bangladesh had also started their campaign in impressive fashion on Wednesday, defeating Maldives in straight sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-21) to open the tournament on a high note.
The six-nation event features teams from Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, with matches continuing until 28 October.
