Bangladesh Navy swept the honours at the Max Group 34th National Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Championship 2025, held from 20–23 October at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur, Dhaka. Organised by the Bangladesh Swimming Federation and sponsored by Max Group, the four-day meet witnessed a total of 20 new national records and five of which came on the final day alone.
The Navy finished top of the medals table with 35 golds, 23 silvers and 11 bronzes, while Bangladesh Army claimed second place with 10 golds, 21 silvers and 29 bronzes. BKSP secured third position, collecting 4 golds, 5 silvers and 9 bronzes, followed by Bangladesh Police, who earned one bronze medal in water polo.
In the pool, Samiul Islam Rafi of Bangladesh Navy emerged as the standout performer, claiming six golds and one bronze, all while breaking six national records to win the Best Male Swimmer award. In the women’s section, Romana Akter from Bangladesh Army dominated with five golds and three silvers, including three new national records, to take home the Best Female Swimmer award.
In diving, Imon Hossain of Bangladesh Navy earned the Best Male Diver title with one gold and one silver, while Nandini Pahan of BKSP clinched the Best Female Diver title after securing three gold medals.
Among the standout events, Navy’s men’s relay team clocked 4:01.05 in the 4×100m freestyle relay to set a new national record, while Army’s Tanmay Mali set a new mark of 29.59 seconds in the 50m breaststroke. Navy’s women’s 4×200m freestyle team Anny, Rupa, Juthi and Tumpa also etched their names into the record books.
In team categories, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Army were crowned champions and runners-up respectively in swimming, while the Army won the water polo title defeating Navy in the final. In diving, Navy took the men’s team title, and BKSP finished runners-up.
The curtain came down on Thursday afternoon with a closing and prize distribution ceremony, where Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff and President of the Bangladesh Swimming Federation, attended as Chief Guest and handed over the trophies and awards to the winners. The event was chaired by Engineer G M Alamgir, Senior Vice-President of the Federation and Chairman of Max Group, while Md Mahbubur Rahman Shahin, General Secretary of the Federation, delivered the welcome speech.
To recognise excellence, every swimmer who set a new national record received Tk 5,000 as a cash reward, alongside additional financial prizes for medal winners.
