Bangladesh moved to 115 for one after 30.1 overs against Australia in Darwin, with Mominul Haque and Tanzid Hasan steadily building on their overnight platform.
Mitchell Starc returned to the attack and bowled full outside off to Tanzid, who guided a thick edge along the ground between slip and gully for four. The boundary took Bangladesh to 115.
Mominul had already helped Bangladesh reach 100 when he flicked Pat Cummins through the leg side for four. The experienced left-hander continued to find scoring options as Australia rotated their attack.
Bangladesh began the morning on 96 for one, with Tanzid on 32 and Mominul on 35. Their partnership had reached 69 runs from 96 balls, giving Bangladesh a solid base to push towards a first-innings lead.
Australia made 198 in the first innings, with Hasan Mahmud taking six wickets and Ebadot Hossain and Taskin Ahmed claiming two each.
Bangladesh now trail by 83 runs, with plenty of batting still available to move ahead of Australia.
