Tanzid Hasan reached his first Test fifty as Bangladesh moved to 129 for one after 37 overs against Australia in Darwin. The opener brought up the landmark in his second Test, giving Bangladesh a strong platform before the drinks break.
Tanzid reached 50 from 102 balls, with five fours, and remained unbeaten alongside Mominul Haque. Mominul moved to 48 from 91 balls as their second-wicket stand reached 84 runs.
Australia introduced Josh Hazlewood for the 10th over of the day, but Bangladesh’s left-handers handled the pace attack with discipline. They continued to score without taking unnecessary risks.
Australia also lost a review early in the innings. Pat Cummins challenged an lbw-style appeal after Tanzid missed a Mitchell Starc delivery outside leg stump, but replays showed the ball clearly missed the bat and would have passed outside the stumps.
Bangladesh trail Australia by 69 runs and now have a chance to build a first-innings lead.
