Bangladesh have finalised their squad for the U-21 Hockey World Cup, set to begin on 28 November in Chennai, India. This marks the nation’s first participation in any hockey World Cup.
The Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) released a provisional list of 20 players, from which 18 will be confirmed for the tournament, with two kept on standby. Six players from the squad that recently competed in Malaysia goalkeeper Nayon, Shumonto Chakma, Shahidul Islam, Tyeb Ali, Saddam Hossain and Shimul Islam were omitted.
Ahead of the World Cup, the team will travel to Lausanne, Switzerland, on 28 October to play two matches each against Switzerland and Austria. Players are expected to return home during the first week of November. Following this, several members of the U-21 squad will participate in a three-match series against Pakistan as part of World Cup qualifying. The team is then scheduled to depart for India on 18 November, ten days before the tournament, and will play a few preparatory matches before the competition begins.
Bangladesh are drawn in Pool F of the 24-team tournament, alongside Australia, France and South Korea.
