Bangladesh have opted out of the proposed tri-nation T20 series in Sri Lanka, which was originally planned as part of their build-up to next year’s T20 World Cup. The news was confirmed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) development coach Nazmul Abeedin Fahim.
The World Cup, to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026, had prompted Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to rearrange its domestic schedule. The Lanka Premier League (LPL), initially meant for July–August, was moved to 27 November with the final set for 23 December.
However, SLC later postponed the LPL to comply with ICC venue preparation requirements. The board has been upgrading three venues, improving facilities, boosting broadcast capacity and expanding media areas ahead of the global event.
In light of the delay, SLC had sought to fill the gap with a tri-nation series involving Bangladesh and Pakistan. Although initial talks were promising, the BCB decided to withdraw, citing player workload and a congested calendar.
“We are not playing the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. That’s not happening,” the BCB’s cricket operations chairman said.
Bangladesh recently concluded their home series against the West Indies and will next tour Ireland from 11 November for Tests and T20s. The players will then turn their focus to the Bangladesh Premier League, beginning on 19 December, which will form a key part of their World Cup preparations.
