The High Court has suspended the biennial election of the Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) for the 2025-2027 term, which was scheduled to be held on 17 January.
On Thursday, 15 January, a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Asif Hasan issued this order. Alongside this, the court has also issued a rule.
Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman represented the state in court. He confirmed the matter of the order to TIMES of Bangladesh. He said, the BAIRA election has been suspended for two weeks.
On 29 October of last year, the three-member election board led by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Firoz Al Mamun, announced the schedule for the biennial election for the 2025-2027 term. According to the announced schedule, voting was to take place uninterrupted from 10am to 4pm at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center.
