Axentec PLC is providing secure connectivity support to Sonali Bank PLC for the government’s “Farmer Card” initiative, said a press release. The pilot programme, inaugurated in Tangail, is enabling farmers to access financial services via point-of-sale machines equipped with dual SIM technology for uninterrupted coverage in rural and semi-urban areas.
The first phase covers approximately 22,000 farmers across 11 agricultural blocks in 11 upazilas spanning 10 districts, with plans for nationwide expansion in subsequent phases. Axentec, a subsidiary of Robi Axiata PLC, deployed the system using its “Robi Secure Connect” service to ensure encrypted, high-capacity and reliable communication essential for secure transactions and efficient service delivery.
Commenting on the initiative, Axentec Managing Director and CEO Md Adil Hossain Nobel said, “We are proud to support Sonali Bank in implementing this important government initiative. Through this programme, we are helping deliver secure digital services at the grassroots level, which will benefit farmers. It will also play a significant role in strengthening Bangladesh’s rural economy,” said a press release.
