Tickets for Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday will go on sale next week, with Disney also revealing the film’s runtime.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney plans to start domestic ticket sales for the Avengers sequel on 20 July. The studio will begin advance sales five months before the film’s release for Infinity Vision theatres, a large-format screening option introduced for selected Doomsday screens.
Disney created the Infinity Vision brand after Warner Bros secured Imax screens for Dune Part III for three weeks following the release of both films on 18 December.
The early ticket sales also revealed that Avengers: Doomsday will have a runtime of 165 minutes, or two hours and 45 minutes. Although the final cut may still change, the runtime is unlikely to see major adjustments at this stage.
The film will run longer than 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, which had a runtime of 149 minutes, but shorter than 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which ran for 181 minutes.
Disney will also release Avengers: Endgame Encore in theatres from 25 September with Infinity Vision screenings. The 2019 film remains the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, earning $2.8 billion worldwide, behind only Avatar (2009).
Marvel declined to comment on the ticket sales plan.
The advance ticket launch will come days before Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on 25 July, where the studio is expected to reveal the first full trailer for the film as the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to Hall H.
The move follows Universal’s decision to create early buzz by opening select Imax ticket sales for The Odyssey a year before its release.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes face a new threat from Doctor Doom, played by former Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr.
The film’s cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theatres on 18 December.
