HSC examinees protesting at Science Lab moved towards the National Parliament building on Tuesday evening after issuing an ultimatum demanding Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon’s resignation and a public apology over what they called “inconsistent” remarks.
The students left the Science Lab intersection around 5:30pm and gathered near the parliament area, saying they would continue their movement until their demands were fulfilled.
The protesters said they would not end the programme unless the authorities take effective steps to address their concerns.
Earlier, student representatives gave the education minister until 6pm to resign and apologise to the nation for his remarks.
Announcing the ultimatum, City College student Md Miraj Hossain said the government must also consider the difficulties faced by candidates who either could not attend Monday’s examination or sat for it amid an adverse situation.
He demanded that the examination held on Monday be taken again and that the next day’s scheduled test be postponed with a revised routine issued.
The students also called for improving question paper standards and making the examination system more student-friendly.
The protest began at Science Lab earlier in the day, where students took position around 3:45pm, bringing traffic movement in the area to a halt and causing severe congestion on nearby roads.
During the demonstration, students chanted slogans demanding the education minister’s resignation.
They alleged that although they had been protesting since morning, no government representative had approached them for talks.
