Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology Textile Alumni Association (AUSTTAA) launched its ‘Campus to Career– Beyond the Classroom’ initiative to bridge the gap between academic education and the practical skill requirements of Bangladesh’s textile and ready-made garment (RMG) industry by preparing textile engineering students for professional careers.
The one-day industry-readiness programme, held at MH Khan Auditorium on AUST campus on Friday, aimed to equip graduating students with practical industry knowledge, business understanding and career-ready skills required in the country’s export-oriented textile and apparel sector, said a press release on Monday.
The initiative was supported by Tex Hue Limited as title sponsor, FCL as co-sponsor and Apparel Times BD (ATBD) as industry knowledge partner.
Vice-Chancellor of AUST Md Ashraful Hoque attended the programme as chief guest. He highlighted the importance of professionalism, continuous learning and adaptability in the rapidly evolving global apparel industry and praised AUSTTAA for helping students prepare for workplace challenges.
“Future engineers must cultivate a strong sense of professionalism and adaptability to excel in the workplace,” he said, encouraging the association to continue strengthening links between academia and industry.
AUSTTAA General Secretary Manjur Morshed Al Azim, also managing director of Tex Hue and ABMOR Ltd, said the association aims to ensure graduates enter the job market with the skills and mindset needed to contribute to and lead the industry.
The workshop covered Bangladesh’s RMG industry, global supply chains, textile manufacturing processes, merchandising, sourcing, supply chain management, communication, career planning and interview preparation. Sessions were designed around practical business scenarios to help students better understand industry expectations.
The programme featured presentations by industry professionals and AUST alumni and concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony led by the Vice-Chancellor.
AUSTTAA plans to expand ‘Campus to Career’ into a long-term industry-readiness programme through collaboration with universities, alumni and textile and apparel companies to strengthen the connection between academia and industry and support the development of Bangladesh’s future apparel professionals, the press release added.
