A Dhaka court has placed Kabir, a close associate of prime accused Faisal Karim Masud, on a seven-day remand in connection with the attempted murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibuzzaman issued the order on Tuesday following a remand petition filed by the investigation officer, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch (DB), Motijheel Zonal Team, seeking a 10-day remand for questioning.
After hearing both sides, the court approved a seven-day remand.
Kabir was arrested on Monday evening from Narayanganj. The arrest was confirmed by RAB’s Director of Law and Media Wing, MZM Entekhab Chowdhury.
A video released by RAB indicated that Kabir used to live in Hadi’s neighbourhood. However, law enforcement officials did not immediately disclose details regarding his alleged role in the attack.
According to DB sources, four people have so far been arrested and placed on remand in connection with the case, which has drawn widespread attention across the country.
Among them are Saheda Parvin Samia, wife of suspected mastermind Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul Daud; her brother Wahid Ahmed; and another accused named Maria Akter Lima, each of whom has been granted five days’ remand.
Earlier, police placed Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used in the shooting, on a three-day remand.
Osman Hadi, a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot on Friday while campaigning in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. The bullet struck his head, leaving him critically injured.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital as his condition worsened.
Doctors described his condition as extremely critical, and on Monday he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced medical treatment.
