Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the parents of Faisal Karim Masud, the key accused in a case filed over the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
A press release in this regard was issued by RAB around 1:30am on Wednesday.
RAB‑10 conducted a special operation around 5:30am at Hasnabad Housing in South Keraniganj, Dhaka. During the operation, Faisal’s father, Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and mother, Hasi Begum, 60, were arrested, according to the release.
On 12 December, assailants on a moving motorcycle opened fire on Osman Hadi, who was in a rickshaw at Purana Paltan. He is a potential candidate for the Dhaka‑8 constituency and also the convener of Inqilab Mancha. His condition remains critical. Hadi was taken to Singapore on Monday for advanced treatment.
Faisal is the third of four children of Humayun and Hasi. He frequently visited the residence of his sister, Jasmine Akter, in Dhaka’s Agargaon area.
Primary investigation revealed that on the night of the attack on Osman Hadi, Faisal went to Jasmine’s residence with a bag. Later, he threw the bag away through an empty space in the house. He then had his nephew, Jamil, 18, retrieve the bag.
The accused threw one of his two used mobile phones from the roof of the house and gave the other to his mother. There, he met his parents. Deeming the location unsafe, Faisal then went from Agargaon to Mirpur, and later to the house of Arif, the son of his father Humayun’s brother, in Shahjadpur.
Faisal’s father, Humayun, hired a CNG‑run auto‑rickshaw for him to take the bag and also gave him some money. Later, Humayun and Hasi went to the Keraniganj residence of their younger son, Hasan Mahmud. They purchased and used two mobile SIM cards from Jurain.
