Assistant Attorney General Md Tarikul Islam has resigned from the post to contest the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election for the 2026-27 session.
He submitted his formal resignation letter to the attorney general on Tuesday morning. In the letter, Tarikul cited personal reasons and his upcoming election preparations as the grounds for his departure.
He confirmed to TIMES of Bangladesh he has decided to run for the post of Assistant Secretary in the forthcoming SCBA polls.
Tarikul said he chose to step down from his government position to strictly adhere to election rules and ensure a fair environment for competition.
In his resignation application, he noted, “I, Tarikul Islam, have been serving as assistant attorney general. As I have decided to be a candidate for the post of assistant secretary in the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association election, I am voluntarily resigning from this position”.
He requested the attorney general to accept the resignation through the proper process.
The Supreme Court Bar Association election is scheduled to be held on 13 to 14 May.
