National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has pledged that the killers of Sharif Osman Hadi will be arrested within one month if the Eleven-Party Alliance is elected to power.
Speaking at an election march at the New Market square in Cumilla’s Debidwar on Wednesday.
He asserted that voters must demand a guarantee of justice for Hadi’s murder from anyone seeking their support.
During the event, Asif Mahmud also promised that Cumilla would be declared a division within a month of the alliance forming the government, noting that all necessary administrative procedures for this move have already been finalised.
The NCP leader raised concerns regarding the current political climate, claiming that while the Awami League regime was defined by disappearances, murders, and general tyranny, another party has commenced a new wave of oppression in the 17 months following the fall of fascism.
He alleged that this particular party is exhibiting the same autocratic behaviour despite not yet being in power. He further noted that 11 individuals from Debidwar Upazila were martyred during the July movement.
Highlighting the alliance’s vision for the younger generation, Asif Mahmud stated that a Jamaat-NCP alliance would focus on making the youth self-reliant.
He remarked that the young people who sacrificed their lives in the July revolution should not have to depend on the mercy of others and promised that the alliance would provide them with honourable employment.
In a critique of a major political rival, he mentioned that while their top leaders speak fairly, one of their leaders recently made distasteful remarks regarding women. He also alleged that supporters of that party have carried out terrorist attacks on candidates of the Eleven-Party Alliance at various times.
The rally was moderated by NCP Joint Member Secretary Lutfur Rahman. Other attendees included NCP Election Committee Member Secretary Monira Sharmin, Joint Member Secretary Tahsin Riaz, Joint Chief Coordinator Navid Nowroz Shah, Cumilla North District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Saiful Islam Shaheed, Jubo Shakti Convener Advocate Tariqul Islam, and Chief Organiser Farhad Sohel.
