Actor Arifin Shuvoo, who describes himself as “happily single”, says he no longer rules out marriage and has come to realise that people are not meant to live entirely alone.

Shuvo has been dividing his time between Bangladesh and abroad, focusing on work and spending time on his own.

His latest film, Malik, was released in theatres during the last Eid-ul-Adha, after which he travelled abroad again.

Before Malik, he had spent an extended period overseas while working on SonyLIV’s original series Jazz City, where his performance received praise.

Despite his busy, nomadic lifestyle, Shuvo says his views on relationships have changed in recent years.

“Birth, death and marriage are said to be predetermined by the Almighty. Since I am now ‘happily single’, I have realised that perhaps people are not meant to live alone. People cannot live alone,” he said.

The actor lost his mother in January 2024, an experience that deeply affected him and led him to withdraw from much of his personal life.

Over time, however, his outlook on life and relationships has changed.

“After my mother passed away and several other things happened, I completely isolated myself. But gradually, I have realised that people do not live life to be alone. That does not necessarily mean a marital relationship. But if I specifically talk about marriage, I can say that a relationship or marriage could certainly come into my life again. Only the Almighty knows. It will happen when it happens,” Shuvoo said.

The actor has also sparked curiosity among fans with his recent social media activity.

He once wrote “happily married” on his verified Facebook page, prompting speculation about his personal life. It was later revealed that the post was related to Happily Married, a Chorki original film, rather than an announcement about his own marriage.

Asked whether his frequent stays abroad could mean he is planning to settle overseas, Shuvo offered no clear indication.

“When the moon rises in the sky, everyone will be able to see it,” he said cryptically.

The actor also says he has moved away from the habit of planning every aspect of his life.

“There was a time when I tried to move forward in life with a lot of planning. I would not call that wrong. At different stages of life, we have different realisations. But at this moment, I do not have any particular plan or strategy about where I should go or what I should do. I want to accept wherever the flow of life takes me and try to understand and enjoy it,” he said.

While discussing the concept of a “happily married” life in the Chorki project, Shuvo also shared his thoughts on marriage and companionship.

He said people have long carried a conventional idea of what makes a marriage happy, but the reality is more complicated.

“Many small things help keep a married life stable and move it forward. They do not always look like the things we associate with ‘happily married’. They come after a lot of understanding, give-and-take and compromise,” he said.

For now, Shuvoo remains tight-lipped about whether his own life is heading towards marriage.

But his recent comments suggest that, unlike before, he is no longer closing the door on the possibility.
