Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held his first working meeting in Islamabad on Saturday with Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Iranian Embassy confirmed.
The Pakistani side also included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and senior officials, Dawn reports.
Araghchi’s delegation comprised Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.
The Iranian minister arrived late Friday carrying Tehran’s formal response to proposals earlier conveyed by the United States through Pakistan.
He was received at the airport by Dar and Munir. Ahead of the visit, Araghchi had spoken separately with both men by phone, focusing on the ceasefire and diplomatic track.
His trip comes at a delicate moment in the US‑Iran standoff, with a fragile ceasefire extended indefinitely but disputes over the naval blockade, nuclear restrictions and sequencing of concessions unresolved. Pakistani officials said the visit was aimed at conveying Tehran’s considered response after internal consultations.
Before departing Tehran, Araghchi wrote on X: “Purpose of my visits is to closely coordinate with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments. Our neighbours are our priority.” Baqaei added: “No meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US. Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan.”

The embassy said Araghchi would meet Pakistani “high‑level officials in concert with their ongoing mediation and good offices for ending American‑imposed war of aggression” and restoring peace in the region.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner would travel to Islamabad on Saturday for a second round of talks with Iran.
“I confirm special envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be off to Pakistan again tomorrow morning to engage in talks — direct talks — intermediated by the Pakistanis, who have been incredible friends and mediators throughout this entire process,” she told Fox News.
Leavitt said the president, vice president and secretary of state would remain in Washington for updates, with Vice President JD Vance “on standby” to dispatch to Pakistan if required.
