A 62-year-old man was killed after an alleged attack by his younger brother over a land dispute in Singair upazila of Manikganj on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Khandaker. The incident occurred around 3:45pm in the Golra area of Singair municipality, according to police and local sources.
The victim’s son Khandaker Rafi filed a murder case on Saturday, naming five individuals including his uncle Wahid Khandaker. Five to six unidentified persons were also accused in the case.
Tension had been brewing for a long time between Nazrul Khandaker and his younger brother and nephews over land ownership, locals said. An arbitration meeting was arranged to resolve the dispute.
Violence broke out during the meeting when the opposing group allegedly kicked Nazrul Khandaker, causing him to collapse. His son Abhi Khandaker, 28, was also attacked and struck with a brick.
Locals rescued them and took them to Singair Upazila Health Complex. As Nazrul’s condition worsened, doctors advised shifting him to Dhaka for advanced treatment. He later died while undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
Abhi Khandaker remains in critical condition at the upazila health complex. Singair Police Station Police Inspector Investigation Swapan Kumar Sarkar confirmed the case filing.
Singair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mazharul Islam said drives are underway to arrest those involved.
