Habiganj district unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Member Secretary Mahdi Hasan was allegedly assaulted by activists of Chhatra Dal on the premises of the Habiganj Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Thursday afternoon.
Mahdi was rescued in a serious condition and admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital.
According to sources, Mahdi had gone to the DC office to submit an application seeking access to CCTV footage related to an alleged attempted attack on him the previous day.
As he was leaving the premises, several activists of the Brindaban Government College unit of Chhatra Dal allegedly intercepted and assaulted him.
Alamgir Hasan Abid, an organiser of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, claimed that some Chhatra Dal activists had been targeting Mahdi for several days and alleged that he was attacked after submitting the application.
Jahidul Huq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station, said police responded to the incident and ensured the victim received treatment.
He added that the matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken upon receipt of a written complaint. Statements from the accused Chhatra Dal leaders were not immediately available.
