Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party play a critical role in maintaining the peace and environment of Chittagong Hill Tracts, according to Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, director general of the paramilitary auxiliary force.
During a recent tour of Bandarban and Chattogram, Mahmud focused on enhancing the operational capacity of Ansar members, including their active participation in environmental initiatives.
“Since 1976, Ansar members have been performing their duties in close coordination with all other security forces, thereby earning the nation’s unwavering trust,” he said.
Speaking at the Suwalak Battalion’s founding anniversary in Bandarban sadar upazila, Mahmud added that Ansar members consistently act in the country’s best interest.
The director general informed that as a part of the “Clean Bangladesh, Green Bangladesh” campaign, a tree sapling distribution ceremony was organised by Suwalak Battalion.
During the event, Mahmud distributed saplings to students of Suwalak High School, thereby marking a symbolic contribution to environmental preservation.
He also visited the Ruma Battalion headquarters in the same region, where he urged Ansar members to ensure the highest operational standards to effectively address external and internal security threats.
“Our role in maintaining security is indispensable. As part of the new Bangladesh, we must ensure our forces’ readiness to face any threat,” he said.
During the latter part of his tour, Mahmud observed training activities at the Patiya Battalion in Chattogram and encouraged members to continue their dedicated service.
He also expressed optimism that Ansar forces will continue their active, resilient and professional role in maintaining the peace and security of remote hill areas.
Mahmud’s was accompanied by Md Saifullah Russell, deputy director general (operations), Dr Saifur Rahman, deputy director general (Chattogram range) and other senior officials of Ansar, according to a press release.
