Another member of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election commission, Dr Rezwana Karim Snigdha, has resigned from her post.
She announced her decision on Saturday noon, confirmed Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Mahfuzur Rahman.
In her resignation letter, Dr Snigdha said she had fallen seriously ill during the commission’s work and was admitted directly to Evercare Hospital from the commission office. As a result, she was unaware of several key decisions taken in recent days, including the finalisation of ballot papers, budget approval, and the cancellation of VP candidate Amartya Roy’s nomination.
“I was not informed about these matters, and such important decisions were taken unilaterally by the commission and administration without notifying me. Despite my illness, I tried to fulfil my duties by being present during vote counting,” she wrote.
She also cited weak administrative management, excessive political interference, and even false claims such as including the name of a deceased teacher in the vote-counting process as factors that made the situation untenable.
“As a neutral teacher, it is no longer morally possible for me to carry out my responsibilities as an election commissioner,” she added.
Dr Snigdha further said, “When the commission is used solely to serve political interests instead of safeguarding the JUCSU election and the university’s greater good, I cannot remain part of it. I therefore request to be relieved of my duties as a member of the election commission.”
Earlier on Friday night, another commission member, Professor Mafruhi Sattar, also resigned, citing unresolved complaints during the polls while vote counting was allowed to continue.
