National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has commented that the interim government and its advisers are pushing people like Mahfuj to their death by using them arbitrarily. He made this comment in a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday.

In the Facebook post, he wrote: “There has been an attempted attack on Mahfuj Alam, a central figure of the mass uprising and an adviser to the interim government, in London. Prior to this, there were attempts to attack and humiliate him in America.

“The fascists are targeting Mahfuj Alam. In the next stage, each of us will be targeted. We know what awaits us. We have been witnessing the brutality of the fascists in Gopalganj.”

He added, “Those who are creating the tacit consent for the attacks on Mahfuj Alam will also suffer. Fascism practices the politics of division. After the mass uprising, Mahfuj Alam has been talking about the politics of inclusion, responsibility, and compassion. But Bangladesh did not walk that path. We have seen that, in the name of opposing fascism, various groups are starting reactive and vengeful politics, which will inevitably bring back fascism. Time will prove that Mahfuj Alam was right, if he gets the chance to survive until then.”

“The interim government has never taken any strong measures regarding the attacks on Mahfuj Alam,” he said. “It has not given any strong message. No adviser or press secretary has ever made a single comment. Tacit consent for the humiliation and killing of Mahfuj Alam has been created even within the government and the advisory council. This government and its advisers are now pushing the ones like Mahfuj to their death by using them arbitrarily. We are keeping note of all these things. There will be a political response to this.”
