Youth and Sports Adviser Aminul Haque launched two national sporting events in Dhaka on Thursday as Bangladesh looks to boost sports from the grassroots to the national stage.
He first opened the National Rugby Sevens Championship 2026 at Paltan Ground. The event marked another step in rugby’s growth in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Aminul Haque praised the Bangladesh Rugby Federation Union for its work and shared his hopes for the sport’s future.
“I welcome this new journey of rugby on Bangladesh soil. We want to create opportunities for our athletes to develop their talent,” he said.
He said rugby should not remain limited to Dhaka. Instead, the sport should spread across the country.
Aminul Haque called on the federation to expand rugby activities to every district so more young players can join the game. He also asked officials to prepare a full yearly sports calendar to help rugby grow in an organized way.
“Our approach is equal for all sports. We want to move every federation forward with the same importance,” he added.
After the rugby event, the adviser went to the National Handball Stadium in Paltan to open the Mini School Handball Competition 2026 for boys and girls.
He said handball remains an important sport in Bangladesh and called the school competition a strong step toward finding young talent from across the country.
The government hopes such events will help build future athletes by creating more chances for children to compete and develop from an early age.
