Former Bangladesh football team captain Aminul Haque has shared his concern over the safety of Bangladeshi cricketers after the recent issue involving Mustafizur Rahman and the IPL.
Aminul spoke after reports said Kolkata Knight Riders have been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to release Mustafizur from their squad. The pacer has not officially been released yet, but the situation has already created strong reactions in the sports community.
He warned that the matter could have a wider impact on Bangladesh cricket in the coming days. Aminul pointed to the risks players may face when travelling to India for the T20 World Cup.
“After the Mustafizur issue, if we go to India to play in the upcoming World Cup, our cricketers will also be at risk. I hope the BCB will talk about this matter,” Aminul said.
The concern comes ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka in 2026. Bangladesh are scheduled to play matches in India during the tournament. Most of their games are set to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Aminul Haque remains one of the most respected names in Bangladesh football. He captained the national team and led them to their historic SAFF Championship title as a goalkeeper.
Alongside his football career, Aminul has been involved in national politics for several years. He has been associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and has often spoken on issues related to sports governance and athlete welfare.
His comments have added to calls for the Bangladesh Cricket Board to hold talks and ensure the safety and fair treatment of Bangladeshi players in international competitions.
