BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Amanullah Aman has alleged that some quarters are conspiring to foil the upcoming national election under proportional representation (PR) system. He urged everyone to stay alert and give a strong response to those attempting to sabotage the polls.

Amanullah said,  “Some people are conspiring to derail the election in the name of the proportional representation system. We must remain cautious and respond firmly to those plotting to disrupt the election,” at a memorial meeting on Tuesday morning.

The event was held at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Hall of the National Press Club, marking the 2nd death anniversary of Democratic League’s late General Secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Moni. It was organised by the Saifuddin Ahmed Moni Memorial Council.

He said the national election would be held in February. “If those who took part in the anti-fascist movement that day become divided, the fascists will take advantage.

“Some are trying to sabotage the election in the name of the PR system, some are attempting to derail it, and some are conspiring in various ways. I urge everyone to stay vigilant about this.”

Calling on a few political parties to return to the anti-government movement, he said, “All political parties that participated in the anti-fascist movement must take a renewed oath that the fascist killer Sheikh Hasina must be brought to justice. The activities of the terrorist political party Awami League have been declared banned, and that ban must remain in force.”

He further alleged, “The main mastermind behind the acts of sabotage is Sheikh Hasina. Therefore, there must be an explanation as to why the trial of this fascist Sheikh Hasina should not be held immediately. Sheikh Hasina is plotting from a neighbouring country to destabilise Bangladesh and derail the election, while her associates here are carrying out those conspiracies.”

“You will see acts of sabotage happening in different places- the fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, various arson incidents. These are all sabotage carried out by the fallen fascists,” he claimed.

Amanullah urged the interim government to “act swiftly to bring these fascists to justice and remain alert so that the conspirators cannot commit further acts of sabotage.”

He added, “The people themselves will resist those trying to derail the election. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that the election will be held in the first half of February. Inshallah, we believe that election will take place. No one will be able to stop it. Those who attempt to sabotage it will be resisted by the people.”

“Today, we take an oath that we will hold the national election together. People will go to vote without fear and cast their ballots for their preferred candidates. The people will form a government of their choice- one that will build a welfare-oriented state,” Aman said.

The memorial meeting was presided over by Saifuddin Ahmed Moni Memorial Council Convener Farid Uddin, conducted by Member Secretary Khokon Chandra Das, and attended by speakers including Faruq Rahman, Abdullah Al Harun, and Mahbubul Alam, among others.
