A high-level meeting of the Alliance of Universities in Ashulia was held on Monday at the conference room of the permanent campus of Manarat International University in Ashulia.
The alliance was formed through the collaboration of private universities located in the Ashulia region, according to a press release.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rob, Vice-Chancellor of Manarat International University.
Among others present were Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University; Emeritus Professor Dr. Shahjahan Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Asian University of Bangladesh; and Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University. Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Treasurers, and Registrars of the concerned universities also attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress and implementation status of the decisions outlined in the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and discussed the future course of action.
Several important issues related to the overall educational and infrastructural development of the Ashulia region were also deliberated, and decisions were taken accordingly.
The meeting decided to formulate a unified strategy to develop the areas surrounding the universities as drug-free zones and to take collective initiatives for the expansion of the road from Birulia to Charabag to ensure smooth and safe movement of students.
It also agreed to coordinate with the Roads Department to reduce traffic congestion at the Akraine intersection.
The participants agreed to promote research collaboration and the exchange of experiences among the universities and to initiate the establishment of a police outpost to improve law and order and address any emerging situations.
The meeting also decided to seek cooperation from the relevant authorities of the Power Division to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
Other decisions included discussing the establishment of Ashulia as a “Higher Education Zone,” enhancing mutual communication and cooperation among the universities, and forming a joint proctorial team comprising members of the proctorial bodies of the five universities.
It may be recalled that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 25 October 2025 at the Eastern University campus among five private universities in Ashulia with the aim of developing the area as a Higher Education City.
Based on the MoU, the Alliance of Universities in Ashulia was formed. The signatory universities are Eastern University, Asian University of Bangladesh, Manarat International University, Daffodil International University and City University.
