Bangladesh’s senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of his decision to step down from his role after the ongoing series against Ireland. Salahuddin, who oversees the national team’s batting unit, submitted a letter to the board last week outlining his intention to leave the position.
In the letter, Salahuddin cited that he was no longer enjoying his responsibilities as senior assistant coach. His decision comes amid a period of criticism, as Bangladesh’s batters have struggled for consistency in recent months.
Speaking ahead of the first Test in Sylhet, Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the players had enjoyed working with Salahuddin and respected his approach. “It is his personal decision,” Shanto said. “I do not know what discussions he has had with the board, that is something he can explain. I have spoken to him personally and I hope the board and he have a good discussion.”
Reflecting on his experience under Salahuddin, Shanto added, “I have enjoyed working with him. Sir always tries to give equal attention to every player and works according to each player’s needs. Sometimes there is a gap between what people see from outside and what is actually true.”
Shanto also made it clear that the squad were pleased with Salahuddin’s methods. “All the players were happy with his work in recent series,” he said. “I have enjoyed working with him and I think he has done a very good job.”
Salahuddin’s departure will mark the end of his latest stint with the national team, where he has long been regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most influential coaches, particularly in player development.
